Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee in the 2016 General Election. But her challenger, Bernie Sanders, is who should be remembered from this election cycle. Sanders professes to be a “democratic socialist,” advocating for entitlement programs such as free college tuition and universal healthcare. The Democratic Party has given Sanders a platform to desensitize America to socialism.
Think about it for a second. The Democrats have introduced Socialism during a predetermined nomination process; Hillary has long been “nominated.” However, Clinton had to run against someone. Moving forward, supporters of Socialism will have actual Presidential Election data to study now. What voters responded well with, what they didn’t. That’s worth its weight in gold when attempting a “political revolution.” A candidate who isn’t almost 80 wouldn’t hurt either.
The Promise of Something for Nothing is preferred in this Country today, somehow. Socialism, however, is preferred by some of the elite as well. The government will not be taking the money they’ve made for years, perhaps even decades. There would be a redistribution of wealth from that point forward. This leaves the top of the hierarchy unchanged and makes it increasingly more difficult for anyone to truly get ahead from that point forward. These same socialist-supporting elite would be revered by most though, I fear. The rich man wins again.
